Once in a Blue Moon, the sky inspires a spectrum of creativity

17-28 May 2028 at TOKE (Toko Kopi & Seni) Denpasar

Teruntuk Bulan Sabit

Artist: Gerry (@gerryprana_)

Ketenangan barangkali berwujud bulan sabit.

The Blossoming Moon

Artist: Yola (@blacken.the.red)

Saya selalu menganggap fase bulan mirip seperti bunga.

The Illuminated Half Moon

Artist: Dominik

I like the half moon because it’s not actually half: but one half is in the light and the rest, while not visible, is still there. The artwork is inspired by recent pictures of the Moon captured by the Artemis II mission. It appears that the light is coming from the left which is illuminating the right hand side of the craters. So I created a fantasy image of the illuminated craters.

Stillness

Artist: Ulansari Manikan

This is how I imagine silence when it glows. It’s the same moon we’re looking at, though the night holds us differently. Its glow crosses the space, making the space between us feel smaller. What a tender thing, to share the same sky.

La Historia de Luna Azul

(Story of the blue moon)

Artist: Siganesart (@siganesart)

Moon turns to blue so does the heart

Oh cold like icy surface of Uranus but

On your crescent moon lips I feel so hot

Now La Historia de Luna Azul you’re not

So blue no more, cause you turn to gold

Inspired by the song “Blue Moon,” a classic romance jazz standard that talks about the lonesomeness before finding true love. The ode to my love story, Because you magically make my blue moon turn to gold.

Rembulan Pelangi

Artist: Habib (@habib_bul)

This artwork reflects my fascination with the newly released mineral photographs of the moon. Through these colorful mappings of the lunar surface, I discovered a different way of seeing the moon: vibrant, layered, and full of unexpected colors. As a rainbow myself, I felt deeply connected and inspired to recreate the moon in its colorful form.

Motion Sickness

Artist: Eleanor (@thesexyfoxx)

It is natural for human beings to have emotions that flow in motion. Nothing must be gotten rid of. Chaos can be enjoyed with peace and joy. And the seas are similar to us: unpredictable, chaotic, deep and flowing in motion. Start to connect and embrace what’s within us. It will help us to understand ourselves and nature better.

The Eclipse and My Solitude

Artist: Lydia Adventa (@ladvtattoos)

Life for me is like the eclipse itself, it’s fast and finite. Unless we observe it carefully we may not realize the richness of it. Blood moon that occurred last year was pivotal for me both by its beauty and my own internal processing.

It may look rogue and dark, but it has its own beauty. I like the feeling of being so small in our multi-universe. They’ll cycle and expand with or without us.

The Woman who Fled to the Moon

Artist: Anna (@annahardjadinata)

The picture is the consequence of perception, geology, and light.
The dark regions forming her silhouette are vast basaltic plains — lunar maria — created billions of years ago by ancient volcanic activity after asteroid impacts fractured the Moon’s crust.
From Earth, we almost always see the Moon’s near side because of tidal locking: the Moon rotates at nearly the same rate it orbits Earth, keeping one hemisphere perpetually facing us. The arrangement of maria on this near side creates pareidolia — the human tendency to recognize familiar forms within randomness.
Some see a face.
Some see a rabbit.
I saw a woman turning away.
Her body is not drawn by mythology, but by collision scars, cooled lava, reflected sunlight, and the architecture of human cognition.
